It must be heaven

Yesterday afternoon, for labour weekend, Wellington Palestine was delighted to host a fundraising screening of Elia Suleiman’s quirky, Chaplinesque commentary on Palestinian identity: “It Must Be Heaven”. The movie was a stunning achievement with frequent and unexpected shifts in register from the deeply poignant to the outright hilarious all wrapped up in stunning cinematography and a wonderful soundtrack.

Elia Suleiman escapes from Palestine seeking an alternative homeland, only to find that Palestine is trailing behind him. The promise of a new life turns into a comedy of errors: however far he travels, from Paris to New York, something always reminds him of home.
